She went to elementary school (SD in Indonesia)  in Purbalingga.
After that she went to the middle school (SMP) in Purwokerto, near Purbalingga.
Her senior high school (SMA) was in Semarang.
During the second world war she went to Chinese as well as to Dutch schools.
After graduating from high school my mother studied pharmacy in the ITB University of Bandung.

Dipl-Ing Iwan Winata (Oey Giok Houw)

My father Oey Giok Houw (after 1969 named Iwan Winata) was born 5 February 1938 in Indramayu, West Java.
He moved to Bandung with his family when he was a child. There he went to school and studied chemical engineering in
ITB university of Bandung. After some years of working in Bandung he studied in Darmstadt, Germany, while my mother, my brother and I stayed in Bandung.
In the 60's my father applied for some jobs in Germany and he got an interview with the personal manager of
Didier Engineering GmbH in Essen, Germany. As a condition for working in this company he had to work in Bagdad, Irak for one year.
The whole family followed him to Irak in 1969. Afterwards, we moved to Essen 1970.
In the later years my father had to work in many different countries like Spain, Turkey, Greece, China, Indonesia, USA, Korea, Taiwan and others. My mom, my brother and I often followed him to those places where we got private lessons or where we went to a private German school.

My parents met each other in ITB University during their studies. The first time was on a Chinese new year party where my father asked my mother to dance with him.
They married 5 August 1961 in Purbalingga.
My father died 12 September 1991 in Bad Oeynhausen.
